Stop Wishing

I apologize for the roughness of this. I just dashed it off without so much as a spell check.

Canada's health care system is a far cry from the eutopia claimed by the left. If Kerry says he wants a system like Canada's, he hasn't a leg to stand on. Is our system perfect? No. But it's better than we think and better than most. Could it use some tweeks? Of course. All good systems (computer, mechanical, electrical) need tweeks to keep them current and useful.

Statistics and those who spew them bother me. Kerry spewed something recently during his "Midnight Madness" speech that got me to thinking. He was in Ohio and claimed that 250,000 Ohio workers lost their jobs in the last year and 400,000 lost their health insurance. Hmmmm ..... I looked up some Census info. Ohio has 11 million people (give or take). That means that 2% of Ohio workers lost their jobs this year and 3.6 percent lost their health insurance. If that were true wouldn't the state be out of money completely just paying unemployment? But I think what really happens is that some get new jobs and health care. Some moved away and get jobs and health care. Some quit because they did not want to (have to) work anymore. Some quit to start their own business. Some had children and decided to stay at home. You get my point. If you trust statistics, A lost her job and has no insurance. Technically that is true. But She started her own business and I added her to my health insurance at work.

Many are calling this mess at CBS and the Boston Globe the straw that broke the back of the "Old Media" camel. I'm inclined to agree. The old media libs finally went too far. Say what you will about the right wingers not liking Clinton. They did not make stuff up about him at least.
