Proud to Display a Flag

I for one am proud to display an American flag on my house. Not because I'm a Republican, but because I'm an American. I do not view being an American and being patriotic as being the sole domain of Republicans. Why does Joel Stein think that's the case? I ask the question, but I don't expect to get an answer that will make me understand.

He claims that displaying the flag puts me in a clique comprised of less than intelligent followers who do not deserve a magnet school. huh? Only idiots are patriotic? I'm not the smartest guy in the United States, but I'm certainly not an idiot. And I do not see being patriotic as my defining characteristic. I'm a regular guy who in spite of being college educated, somehow manages to still love his country.
